Our court system in California is broken. The central bureaucracy, the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), currently controls trial court funds – but it’s not required by law to send the funds to the trial courts.

Instead, the bureaucracy itself is growing…its budget has quadrupled since 1997.

Plus, it continues to spend money on an IT project that doesn’t even work and will cost $2 billion total. The estimated cost this year is $124 million – enough to stop 2,000 layoffs of court clerks.

All of this is happening even as we face layoffs and cuts, and the public suffers.

I have seen the effects of cuts on your constituents, the people I serve, over the past few years.
